ACTIVE INGREDIENT
Sodium Hyaluronate
Designed specifically for those suffering from knee pain due to joint inflammation (osteoarthritis), this medication is an ideal choice for patients who have not found relief through standard treatments such as acetaminophen, exercise, or physical therapy. Sodium Hyaluronate, also known as hyaluronan, mimics a natural substance found in your joints. Its primary role is to act as a lubricant and shock absorber, allowing for smoother knee movement while significantly reducing discomfort.
UsesBefore starting your treatment with hyaluronate, and each time you receive a refill, ensure you consult the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your healthcare professional. Should you have any questions, don?t hesitate to reach out to your doctor or pharmacist for clarity.
How to Use OstenilYour healthcare provider will administer this effective medication through an injection into the affected joint, typically on a weekly basis. Avoid using skin disinfectants that contain ammonium salts (like benzalkonium chloride) at the injection site. In some cases, your doctor may need to drain excess fluid from the joint prior to your injection. The exact dosage will depend on your specific medical condition and your response to the treatment.
Please refrain from injecting hyaluronate into a vein or artery, as this can lead to increased side effects.
After receiving your hyaluronate injection, it's advisable to avoid strenuous activities that could put stress on your knee?such as jogging, playing tennis, heavy lifting, or standing for extended periods? for at least 48 hours. It?s normal to experience some initial pain and swelling in the knee after the injection; however, if these symptoms persist or intensify, reach out to your doctor promptly.
Consistency is key in your treatment plan; sticking to your scheduled injections is essential, as it may take up to three doses to fully realize the benefits of the medication. If you notice that your condition is not improving or is worsening, please inform your healthcare provider.
Mild side effects such as pain, swelling, redness, warmth, bruising at the injection site, or headaches may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, be sure to contact your doctor or pharmacist right away.
Side EffectsRemember, your doctor has prescribed this medication because they believe the benefits far outweigh any potential risks of side effects. Most individuals using this treatment do not encounter serious side effects.
However, if you experience severe side effects, including back pain, intense headaches, rapid or pounding heartbeats, fever, or tingling skin, seek immediate medical attention. Although severe allergic reactions to this medication are rare, it's crucial to get help right away if you notice any signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as rash, itching or swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
