Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), also known as Somatomedin C, is a hormone closely related to insulin. It plays a vital role in growth during childhood and exhibits anabolic effects in adults.
IGF-1 is a crucial growth factor essential for healthy human development, primarily synthesized in the liver and various tissues throughout the body.
This powerful hormone consists of 70 amino acids, with an A and B chain linked by disulfide bonds, and a C peptide region containing 12 amino acids.
USAGEInsulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) is instrumental in supporting normal bone and tissue growth, while also lowering blood glucose levels. It specifically targets fat cells to enhance fat utilization, which contributes to increased lean body mass and reduced fat?benefits highly sought after by athletes and bodybuilders. Elevated IGF-1 levels correlate with weight gain, notably from lean mass rather than fat accumulation.
Widely appreciated in the bodybuilding community, IGF-1 aids in quicker recovery post-workout and boosts energy levels during exercise.
IGF-1 injections are frequently administered to both adults and children facing growth hormone deficiencies, offering essential amino acids that promote healthy growth in children and assist adults with deficiencies.
Research suggests IGF-1's anabolic effects may arise from diminishing protein breakdown and enhancing protein synthesis in skeletal muscles, potentially aiding in the healing of skin burns and other tissue irregularities.
MECHANISM OF ACTIONIGF-1 is a naturally occurring hormone in human blood that primarily regulates the effects of growth hormone in the body. Together, IGF-1 and growth hormone promote tissue and bone growth. It is produced in various tissues in response to the growth hormone circulating in the bloodstream.
IGF-1 stimulates growth in nearly every cell type, including those in bones, cartilage, skeletal muscles, liver, kidneys, nerves, skin, and lungs. In addition to its insulin-like actions, IGF-1 supports cellular DNA synthesis.
ADMINISTRATIONIGF-1 is typically administered via subcutaneous injection in a fleshy area, such as the stomach or abdominal region, but can also be given intramuscularly.
ADMINISTRATION GUIDELINES:Ensure you use a clean, sterile syringe for IGF-1 injections.
- Hold the IGF-1 vial upright and insert the syringe through the center of the cap.
- Pull the plunger until the desired dose (see ?Dosage? section) is in the syringe, then carefully remove it.
- Sanitize the skin at the injection site with alcohol.
- Pinch the skin around the injection area to create approximately 2 cm of space on each side.
- Position the syringe at a 90-degree angle to the skin and swiftly insert it.
- Fully depress the plunger until the syringe is empty, then gently withdraw.
For optimal lean muscle growth and fat loss:
DOSAGE GUIDELINES:- Men: 40 mcg - 50 mcg daily
- Women: 10 mcg - 20 mcg daily
Do not exceed two injections of IGF-1 per day. Typical dosage cycles last between 2 to 12 weeks. Children and adults prescribed IGF-1 for growth deficiencies should consult their healthcare provider for tailored dosing.
POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTSIGF-1 may present side effects similar to other growth hormones, including excessive tissue growth (acromegaly) and possible damage to the joints, liver, and heart. Common side effects include joint pain, muscle discomfort, headaches, and nausea. IGF-1 can lower blood glucose levels, potentially leading to hypoglycemia. Additionally, research has associated IGF-1 with an increased risk of certain cancers, including lung, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancers.
