Tesamorelin is a powerful synthetic peptide derived from the growth hormone-releasing factor (GRF).

This innovative medication is specifically designed to combat excess abdominal fat linked to certain HIV treatments, a condition known as lipodystrophy.

It's important to note that Tesamorelin is not intended for general weight loss and should not be used for obesity management.

Indicated solely for HIV-positive patients experiencing lipodystrophy, Tesamorelin (for injection) effectively reduces surplus abdominal fat.

Usage Limitations:

  • The long-term safety and potential cardiovascular advantages of Tesamorelin have not been thoroughly evaluated. Therefore, it is essential to assess treatment continuation in patients who do not show significant improvements, particularly those with reductions in visceral adipose tissue as measured by waist circumference or CT scans.
  • Tesamorelin is not approved for weight management and is considered weight-neutral.
  • Current evidence does not support that Tesamorelin enhances adherence to anti-retroviral therapies among HIV-positive individuals.

General Dosing Guidelines:

The recommended dosage for Tesamorelin is 2 mg, administered subcutaneously once daily.

For optimal results, inject into the abdomen, rotating injection sites within this area. Avoid injecting into scar tissue, bruises, or the navel.

Reconstitution Instructions:

Tesamorelin must be reconstituted using the provided diluent.

To prepare a 2 mg vial of Tesamorelin, add 2.1 mL of diluent and gently roll the vial in your hands for 30 seconds?do not shake.

Detailed reconstitution guidelines are available in the INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE leaflet included with the Tesamorelin and diluent packages.

Administer Tesamorelin immediately after reconstitution and dispose of any unused solution. If not used right away, discard the reconstituted solution. Avoid freezing or refrigerating it.

Administration:

Always visually inspect the reconstituted Tesamorelin solution for any particles or discoloration before use. The injection should only be performed if the solution is clear, colorless, and free from particulate matter.

Inject Tesamorelin subcutaneously into the abdominal skin, rotating sites as needed while avoiding scar tissue, bruises, or the navel.
